The primary focus of the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program is providing food for Navajo Elders. The Elders' need for food is pressing and consistent. You can assist the Elders with this need through our food support programs.
Food Certificates: You can purchase food certificates through the Program that the Elders can use at Bashas grocery stores, which are located throughout the reservation. The certificates are available in $25 increments. We will gladly send food certifcates to your Elder on your behalf or mail to them to you so you can send them.
If you do not choose to adopt an Elder, you may still purchase food certificates and we will see that they are sent to an Elder in need (see Feathers for the Forgotten Ones). The certificates can only be used to purchase food and off-the-shelf medical items, and cannot be used for alcohol, cigarettes or lottery tickets.
Rainbow Food Boxes: If you choose not to use the Food Gift Certificates, we offer the Rainbow Food Box Program. A $100 donation will provide two boxes of food for an Elder. Volunteers will purchase needed items and box them for you and they will be delivered to an Elder during our semi-annual food runs. These items can only be delivered during the semi-annual food runs (spring and fall).
If you would prefer to mail your check to the Program rather than use the shopping cart system, you can print and use our Donation Mail Form .
